There’s a copy of an October 22, 1969 edition of the San Francisco Examiner for sale on Ebay. This time frame was at the absolute height of the Zodiac’s impact on the city. There were, literally, developments every day. This particular day contained an article where Paul Stine’s brother challenged the Zodiac. The brother revealed details about where he worked, his daily routine, etc. and effectively dared the killer to come after him.
Another noteworthy attribute of the auction is the current bid, which is $92.99 – and that’s with the disclaimer that the seller has most of the newspaper. I’ll admit, I’m not too knowledgeable about the typical prices of such things, but this seems pretty high; it’s certainly well beyond what I would consider paying for it. But then again, I’m not the kind of person that buys actual historical newspapers. I’m more than happy with copies taken from mircofilm. Â Also, there’s still another 2 days to go. It will be interesting to see where the price ends up…
Update: The newspaper ended up selling for $92.99.
